Three years of Engineering...
Before CET, I didn't want to do
Engineering as I've thought that my passion is somewhere else. Still, I tried
to study for CET. And finally, the moment came on 11th may 2017 I appeared for
CET. I remember I solved all math problems and while solving physics problems I
was blanked and I've to guess the maximum of the problems. Still paper went
well. On 11th may evening, my friend Shriniwas came to my home we were going to
our tuition farewell (he knew about my engineering decision) He came and told
me that, 'I know, now you are going to change your decision and you'll do
engineering.' I laughed and said 'we'll see.'
In June, the result came and I
scored a decent score. And, then came the three mysterious rounds of college
admission. The saying, 'when any one of the family members has opted for
engineering, the whole family has opted for engineering.' It was true with my
case. My whole family started in shortlisting colleges. We were thinking of
only Government colleges. Therefore, we shortlisted three colleges viz. COEP,
GCOE-Aurangabad, GCOE-Amravati. Other colleges were discarded because of the
simple fact that, they are far away from my home town which is 'Nagpur'.
In my boards, I had chosen
Computer Science (CS) as my vocational subject. I didn't study CS for two years
at all. In the last month, Deshkar sir was there to rescue us. He taught us in
the last month before the exam and gave us the most important thing which
nowadays everyone wants in engineering life i.e. 'Notes'. I scored 180 in that
paper by looking at my efforts, I considered this as a good score. The score
was good but I was missing personal satisfaction. I'm the person who wants to
try everything in life. As I already experienced what's inside the subject
called 'Computer Science', I want to explore other subjects. Therefore, there
was no way I'll select CS/IT as my engineering branch. Civil Engineering was
never an option for me as my drawing skills are always trapped in the house
with one window and one door alongside the Mountains, a River, the Sun, and ४ (four) birds flying
around. Therefore, the only options left were Mechanical, Electrical and
Electronics, and Tele-Communication. One of these three was going to decide my
future. Being a car enthusiast, my priority order was Mechanical >
Electrical > E&TC. Electrical was my second priority because my father
is an Electrical Engineer. Everyone tries to follow his/her father I was no
different. And, there wasn't anything to hate Electronics and I heard from
somewhere that, 'E&TC people can go in core as well as software so there's
a good chance that you'll be placed after engineering.' (Even Yamraj is
laughing at this point).
Finally, the result of the first
cap round came and no surprised I didn't get any college. Still, I was calm and
composed and focusing on the next round strategies (portraying myself as
Sherlock Holmes/Professor). Before the second round, my father came with a new
college named, 'Bajaj Institute of Technology Wardha.' He thought of placement
as at least Bajaj will give the job to their students. So, I had to append
Bajaj to my existing list of colleges. I fought the second fight (round) with
four pawns and I was sure at least one of the pawns will bring the crown to me
and I was right. Second of the second round came and tadaaaaa…!!!!!!! I got
'Electronics and Tele-Communication' in 'Government College of Engineering,
Amravati.' I was happy as I didn't want to go to Wardha. I went to ARC and told
the person that I want to float the option. Now I knew that if I fought with
the king in king's landing. Even if I lose, I'll have North with me. I fought
the third round with two pawns with their full potential and one pawn was
fighting with only two special powers (GCOE, Amravati with Mechanical and
Electrical). The King was very powerful he defeated my most powerful pawn
within seconds (COEP). I was hoping my second pawn will cross the line but he
failed too (Aurangabad). After the war (third round), I was left with North in
my hand surrounded by King's army. The army (DTE-Maharashtra) was saying,
'Freeze, you don't have any other option.' I freeze GCOE Amravati with
E&TC.
Two days after college, I found
myself in Car with my dad. We were heading to Amravati for my admission with
all my documents and a laptop. My dad asked me what's the need for a laptop? I
answered firmly, 'We might need it in case of emergency.' He ignored me and
started driving. This was my first journey to GCOE Amravati. Almost 80% of my
relatives from my dad side stay's in the Amravati district. From the last 17
years of my life, I've been to Amravati at least 50 times. So, Amravati was not
new for me but this was the first time I was stepping out of my comfort zone
and I was the only one with me to fight. I was enjoying my journey and trying to capture the stormy weather on my new mobile phone. (🙈) My thought process and photography skills vanished as we
entered the college premises, the guard greeted us as we had parked the vehicle
in the parking shade besides Admin. The shade was for teachers but we didn't
know that. (:p) After that, we sent straight to the physics department where
the college professors were conforming to new admissions and providing hostel
forms. We were standing outside the department on the ground floor of Admin
building alongside the Chemistry department (This way you won't consider
'physics department' as a separate building in the 124-acre college premises)
There I saw a familiar face. The face was of a girl, she was from Gadkari Sir's
tuition classes (No. 1 sir in Nagpur). I smiled at her, she smiled back and I
thought that after joining college I will speak to her. I moved on towards the
waiting line. (After three years, I haven't spoken to her yet). As we were
standing in the line my father spoke with a lab assistant as he was the only
person who was allowing students to enter the department for admissions. That
was the reason Baba spoke with him. My father is the smartest, coolest person
I've ever seen. His sense of humor is very good you can't beat him.
After waiting for 15-20 mins, he
granted us entry in the hall. There I was standing in front of my all
professors. (When you use professor instead of teacher for the first time,
you've grown up and there's no turning back. You've to face the changes) I was
thinking about my survival in this new world of strangers suddenly, I heard
'next' and I traveled back from my future to present and submitted my documents
to the professor. He checked my documents and said that 'We need the latest
printout of confirmation. The print of round 2 won't work.' (meanwhile, I
thought 'I didn't get any college in round 3 and I was stuck with the same
option as that of round two…Huh so, why's need of any other document…) I didn't
say what I thought and went straight back to Baba and told him what happened.
We were thinking of an internet café to get the required printout. I was not
the only one who was facing the problems, there were more than 5 to 6 students
who faced a similar problem. To solve the problem, I opened my laptop and
downloaded the required document. (When I opened the laptop, I felt like I was
the messiah of the group and everyone surrounded me like I was their Hero. One
boy from Civil asked me 'can I use your laptop?' I said 'yes you can but I've
to go so, hurry up.!' (I think that was the starting point of someone showing
kindness to 'Civil'. Two years later whole 'Electrical Department' shown
kindness to 'Civil Department') I got the required printout from the department
itself as no one was working on a PC and a printer was connected to it. After
submitting the form, I went straight to the hostel desk and picked up the form
of 'Satupda/Sahyadri Boys hostel' I put the form on the table and started to
fill it but a bag was disturbing me so I pushed the bag, the bag owner was also
filling 'her' hostel form. As I didn't ask her permission to touch her bag, I
was scared as hell because feminism was at the peak. Even if the girl is wrong,
the society will support her but this time it was my fault. She being the
silent girl kept her back close to her without saying a word. I too didn't say
a word and started filling my form and after filling all the details, I
submitted it with high hopes of getting hostel. After my 10th
boards, I was the pure version of ‘Sakta Launda’ as explained by ‘Zakir Khan’ (due
to my personal reasons). Finally, I booked a place, where I'll spend my four
years.
Lesson learned from Engineering: ‘If you are standing in front of the person who’s seating, you’ve to obey his orders as he as the authority.’
To be continued…
